Book blog – The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro, Daniel Kraus

This is such a fantastic story and so well told. Unequivocally reiterating that love is possible regardless of physical differences. Whereas the flow, character development, and narrative are spot on, the visual impact that we got from the movie is sadly missing in the book.

Therefore this is one of the few stories for which I would recommend you watch the movie rather than read the book.

Here’s an extract though that spoke to me.

‘I was too young to understand them (my feelings), too out of place or time to do anything about it. Now that I understand? Well, I ‘m old. …. My time is ending, even though it feels like I never had a time, not really.’ – The Shape of Water

To me, this sentiment should be the biggest fear of a human being. Being close to the end of one’s life and finding you never really lived!!
